This week I started my final outcome, which is an acrylic painting on canvas. I began by building and stretching the canvas, before priming it to make the paint application easier. My aim for the week was to cover the whole canvas in a variety of colourful marks that I could work back into to make my painting vibrant and visually interesting.

To create my marks, I used broad brush strokes, a dry brush, a palette knife and watered-down paint. I like how these different techniques play with each other- the drips blur some of the brushstrokes etc. I looked at Carol Gove's work because I like the way she layers different types of marks.

I chose a colourful palette to symbolise the childish, playful side of hiding but also layered darker blues and browns to create an ominous undertone. This will allow me to explore the juxtaposition of the different types of hiding when I start to add the figures and objects into my composition.
